A Flag is Born
May 8, 2019 @ 6:15 pm - 7:30 pm
$10.00Join us May 8th for a performance of A Flag is Born in honor of Israel’s 71th Birthday.
The play originally opened September 5, 1946 at the Alvin Ailey Theatre. It ran on Broadway for ten weeks before touring nationally. It featured the Broadway veteran, Paul Muni, and a new talent, Marlon Brando, along with the incidental music of Kurt Weill. The American League for a Free Palestine underwrote the project. The Wyman Institute in Washington D. C. holds and grants the rights to the work.
The emphatically strong drama, from one of the most important stage and screen writers of the era, was originally designed to guilt audiences into financially supporting ships to transport remnant Jews from Europe to Palestine. It was so persuasive that it became instrumental in the lobbying effort for the creation of the state of Israel.
Among the talented congregants involved are Patsy Parker, the director, who found the script and propelled the creation of the project, and Cantor Roger Eisenberg, who is the musical director.
Temple Solel, 6805 E. McDonald Drive, Paradise Valley
