BJE Passages: A Beautiful Place

A musical presentation by composer, Craig Bohmler, A Beautiful Place is how the International Red Cross inspector described Terezin in his report after visiting the concentration camp in June 1944.
The musical tells the story of Friedel Dicker-Brandeis, a Bauhaus-educated artist, interned at Terezin and murdered at Auschwitz. She was the art teacher in Terezin who gave comfort, hope and inspiration to hundreds of Jewish children under unimaginable conditions.
Craig Bohmler’s works have been widely performed in the US, Canada, Europe, and Japan. In addition to four operas and ten musicals, he has written numerous concerti and symphonic works. He was Composer-in-Residence for Arizona Opera from 2013-2017 where his opera RIDERS OF THE PURPLE SAGE was premiered. He received the 2019 Arizona Governors Arts Award for individual artist.
