Jewish Literacy: The Importance of the Page
January 30 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm$18
The Jews are often called “The People of Book” (or alternatively, “The Prosen People”), but how obsessed are Jews with the written word? In this panel, we will explore the deep importance that literacy, education, and literature have played in ensuring a vibrant dynamism in Jewish thought and culture. Panelists will discuss innovative programs designed to stimulate interest in reading, traditional views of disseminating Jewish wisdom through copious amounts of printed material, the future of access to Jewish texts, and the sacred nature of words to promote Jewish identity and continuity.
Panelists Rabbi Micah Caplan of Congregation Or Tzion, Rabbi Tracee Rosen of Beth Emeth Congregation of the West Valley, and Suzanne Swift of the Jewish Book Council. Facilitated by local author, Judy Laufer.
