Shalom Chaverim (Dear Friends),
I hope you all have had a happy and meaningful Pesach with Seders and experiences you will cherish. Passover is one way we pass our Jewish values and traditions to the next generation. The NowGen Giving Circle, in partnership with our Federation, exemplifies the efforts of our community’s young Jewish adults to live these values. They are a group of Jewish twenty- to thirty-somethings who support Jewish life locally, nationally, in Israel and abroad, allocating approximately $20,000 a year. The circle is an extension of Federation’s NowGen initiative to engage young Jewish adults in the community, in service and in philanthropy.
During Passover Seders this past week, no blessing was said when we broke the middle matzah, because its brokenness is a symbol of incompleteness. It reminds us of all that needs repair in the world. When we tasted the Afikomen, the larger portion of the middle matzah, again, no blessing was said. Not doing so affirms our belief that completeness will come in the future.
As Federation grows our NowGen and NowGen Giving Circle, we come closer to fulfilling this desire to repair the world completely. Having met so many of these wonderful young men and women, I have perfect faith that indeed we will.
Wishing you and your families a wonderful conclusion to Pesach 2018, and to all of you who take the time to read my Shabbat messages, thank you and Shabbat Shalom.
