Shalom Chaverim (Dear Friends),
This week, I had the opportunity to meet and learn with a dozen of the Israeli-American Council Gvanim Community Leadership. This group is working to build bridges among the Israeli-American community, the American-Jewish community and Israel.
When our Israeli-American and American-Jewish communities make the time and effort to understand each other, to welcome each other and to work together to enrich our Greater Phoenix Jewish community, we fulfill a piece of our mission that is strengthening and engaging a vibrant Jewish community.
This fits with this week’s Torah portion, which by the way, is also my Bar Mitzvah portion. It is Va’eira (and I appeared) found in the book of Exodus. In it, G-d instructs Moses to tell the Israelites that He has heard their cries and He will deliver them from Egypt and to the Promised Land.
The work we do together to build bridges among the affiliated and unaffiliated, between the Israeli-American and American-Jewish communities, brings us closer to actualizing our own dynamic Jewish community filled with promise.
