Marty’s Shabbat Message – January 18, 2018

Shalom Chaverim (Dear Friends),

Are we already three weeks into 2018? Last year was an exciting one for me personally – I became the executive director of Federation and feel so blessed to have been part of one of the best campaigns we’ve had in recent years! Our fundraising efforts, including missions, campus security and other special campaigns, brings the total to more than $4,350,000 for the community! This includes an annual campaign achievement of $3,628,326, an increase of almost $250,000 over last year! The generosity of our incredible donors coupled with the efforts of our volunteer leaders made it possible. It is the programs and the exceptional work of our partners that matter the most…so to all of you, I offer my heartfelt gratitude.

While it is money that fuels our efforts, it is what we do with those dollars that is critical. In 2018, we have renewed focus on our mission to strengthen and engage a vibrant Jewish community while providing for Jews in need. We also sharpened our core impact areas:

  • Caring for Jews in Need Locally and Globally
  • Building Community
  • Engaging the Next Generation
  • Enriching Senior Lives

In the coming weeks, I will highlight the work we do and fund within these core impact areas.

This week’s Torah Portion is Bo (Go in onto Pharaoh) in Exodus. After the last three plagues are delivered unto the Egyptians, the Israelites are finally freed from bondage and able to flee Egypt. It is the Passover story, where we see the Israelites begin to grow into the nation of which we are so proud.

May we never forget our humble beginnings. May we always remember to be responsible one for the other. May we always have Tzedakah (justice and righteousness) in our hearts and may the 2018 campaign and the wonderful things that campaign allows us to do for Jews in need be another great success. We hope we can count on you for those who count on us.

Shabbat Shalom.

Marty Haberer
Executive Director
