Shalom Chaverim (Dear Friends),
I have just returned from a remarkable few days with our local Federation Young Leadership Cabinet representatives from the annual JFNA Young Leadership Cabinet Conference in Toronto. I have just enough time to do my laundry and repack my bags as I, Marc Newman and Rachel Hoffer represent our community on the JFNA Total Financial Resource Development mission to Argentina & Uruguay. We will have the opportunity to see how our Federation overseas dollars are being put to work to help Jews in need in these fragile communities.
Of course we impact our local community as well. Our officers had the vision to raise and give additional dollars benefitting our local synagogues, temples and camps. They contributed and distributed nearly $80,000 for innovative and impactful programs.
Synagogues and camps make such an impact in our community that Federation wanted to do more to partner with them and to support their ideas for new and expanded programs. We are incredibly excited to grow the scope of our funding and outreach to support large and small programs from Valley synagogues that benefit so much of our Jewish community, as well as new programs that increase camp engagement.
– Barry Markson, chairman of the Planning & Allocations Committee
This week’s Torah portion is Pinchas (Son of Eliezer). Moses empowers Joshua to succeed him and lead the people into Israel.
I’m excited to see a new generation of leaders for our Federation, such as Rachel Hoffer and Marc Newman, who, like Joshua, are taking up the mantle of leadership. They will continue to build on Federation’s important work for our local Jewish community and for Jews in need worldwide.
Wishing all of you a wonderful August and a Shabbat Shalom.
President & Chief Executive Officer
