Shalom Chaverim (Dear Friends),
Did you know that Jewish Family & Children’s Service touched the lives of nearly 10,000 Jews in our community in 2017? Nearly half of these were patients in area hospitals. Because Federation funds a good part of the JFCS chaplaincy program, 4,680 Jews received the comfort and spiritual care of Rabbi Robert Kravitz and Rabbi Michael Dubitsky.
In addition, 2,500+ Jews called JFCS Jewish Programs Manager Kathy Rood or spoke to JFCS Senior Concierge Janet Rees, seeking information about available services for themselves or family members. Federation also funds, in part, JFCS’ Helping Hands emergency assistance, which helped more than 50 Jewish families in crisis in 2017.
We greatly value our partnership with JFCS and are grateful to our generous Federation donors who help make all of these, and other vital community services, possible.
This week’s Torah portion is Vayikra (and He called) in Leviticus. In this chapter, G-d communicates the laws of the Korbanot to Moses, the sanctuary animal and meal offerings. Today, we provide “offerings” to those in need through donations to the annual campaign that help support the amazing work being done by JFCS and so many other Jewish communal organizations we are so fortunate to have in our Valley, in Israel and throughout the world.
Together, we truly live Kol Yisrael erevim zeh la zeh, each Jewish person is responsible one for the other.
