Marty’s Shabbat Message – March 29, 2018

Shalom Chaverim (Dear Friends),

Did you know that Birthright Israel participants are more likely to feel a connection to Israel, marry a Jew, raise Jewish children and be engaged in Jewish life?

Through your generosity, Federation provided $35,209 for Taglit Birthright Israel in 2017. This year, the Birthright Israel Foundation is matching all gifts made between now and April 30 3-to-1! This is a wonderful opportunity to strengthen Jewish life and identity with your additional giving to Federation. All funds will be used to send more Phoenix participants on Birthright trips—one-third of applicants are wait-listed due to lack of funds. I encourage you to make your gifts to Birthright Israel through Federation using the button below.

Birthright Israel

This Erev (eve before) Shabbat begins Pesach or Passover. In so many ways, Passover is the signature story of our Jewish people and resonates with everyone, Jews and non-Jews alike, for its message of freedom, of ending slavery and combating xenophobia. In Exodus 10:9 it says, “We will go with our young and our old… our sons and our daughters… to observe a festival to Adonai.” Passover is an inclusive holiday. Family and friends of all ages should be welcomed and encouraged to join in the songs and prayers of the Seders.

May you and your families have a happy, healthy and meaningful Passover, reflecting on how fortunate we are to have food on our tables, roofs over our heads and a Jewish community that provides Birthright trips to any interested young Jewish adult, so they too experience our eternal Jewish homeland.

Chag Cherutanu Sameach (a happy celebration of the holiday of freedom)!

Shabbat Shalom.
