Shalom Chaverim (Dear Friends),
This week saw the ending of the popular HBO series Game of Thrones. Some of us have invested ten years in watching the struggle for power of the Seven Kingdoms unfold, but now our watch has ended. Whatever will we do? The good news is there is a prequel in production titled Blood Moon.
Also ending this week, the second cohort of our Yesod Leadership program. These 11 committed individuals spent 24 hours together over eight sessions. Training included insightful Chevrutah (Group) learning around traditional Jewish texts pertaining to leadership and many TED Talks, business articles and other learning resources. While the program is offered through the Federation as a feeder to some of our programs, our goal is to prepare the graduates to serve in our community’s congregations and agencies.
This week’s Torah portion is Behar (On the Mountain). It focuses on the seventh-year sabbatical when work on the land ceases and the produce is free to all. After serving as an instructor for Yesod for three years, including a year in Sarasota, Florida, I too am taking a sabbatical.
I am delighted to announce that Shoshana Greenberg, 2018 Yesod graduate from our Development team and program administrator for 2019, will lead the class of 2020.
I am very proud of Shoshana and I wish our Yesod graduates great success as they go forth into our community to give of their time, talent and treasure. It has been a true pleasure working with them this year. Mazel tov one and all!
